Newburyport Offshore Report

Jun 27, 2011
Had the pleasure of taking Linda and family for some Cod/Haddock this past Sunday. Weather had layed down nicely form the hard Northeast we've had the previous few days. We got to numbers and immediately went to work with bent rods all around. Nice mix of Haddock and Cod filled a couple totes quickly with some Pollock and Cusk mixed in. It was a pleasant surprise to see the size of some Codfish, larger than normal. The bite seemed to taper off about 11 am. We bumped around a bit but fish never seemed to turn back on as it was a slow pick rest of day, but plenty of fillets for family and friends. What a nice day with great people from Maine. I heard of Bluefish moving in yesterday, scattering the Mackeral. They seem to be taking up residence in the mouth so that will be fun going forward, Striped Bass are around in very good numbers, now is the time to target them, saw some football tuna out a Jeffrey's yesterday, didn't mark or see any 'big guys' but they'll be coming, bite should really start to pick up soon. Sharks are being sighted also, they'll be funneling in soon and we have some shark charters lined up so will report on them also.

Boat has to hit dry dock for some minor repairs this week and then it's vacation with the family, hope everyone has a fun and safe 4th.
