Cod/Haddock fishing out of Newburyport
May 23, 2011
Had the privelege to take out Kevin Watson and his group from W. Mass. Day started with 'Pea Soup' fog from the Mouth of Merrimac all the way to Jeffrey's Ledge. That would be the way it was for the day, no visibility, fishing by radar. The bite that had been really good, slowed right down on Saturday, not much current, the fish were there just no biting. After moving around much of the day while staying on the drift we picked away at a few Cod, Haddock and Cusk. Around 1 pm we hit the edge and made a couple drifts, hit the jackpot....Fish were down there and now feeding, every drop producing hits, the current was really moving now so we set anchor and filled the box, Mike filleted all the way back to the Mouth. That's the way fishing is most days, inconsistent, patience is a virtue and it sure was today. The Cod/Haddock are stacked up pretty good out there and now is the time to go get em as the waters are still cold- 46 F. We'll start Striped Bass Fishing soon as the Mackeral seem to be filtering into the Bay, marked em well on way out Sat.
Tight Lines.
